Good Grief: Sports Announcer Rants Against Guns

December 3, 2012

The bias in the mainstream media is so anti-gun, anti-constitution, and anti-liberty, that they’re now even dishing it out in sporting events. That’s right, Bob Costas made waves when he gave an anti-gun rant in which he blamed “gun culture” for a crime in which a football player murdered his girlfriend and then killed himself. This is disgusting. The gun didn’t kill anyone — the murderer did.

Perhaps what’s worse, Costas isn’t a political commentator. He’s a sports guy. We pay him to do sports. Not political commentary. Not talk about how we need more government. Not talk about why my guns need to be banned. No. He’s paid to talk about sports.

Here’s the text of the incoherent rant:

“Our current gun culture simply ensures that more and more domestic disputes will end in the ultimate tragedy, and that more convenience-store confrontations over loud music coming from a car will leave more teenage boys bloodied and dead.

In the coming days, Belcher’s actions will be analyzed through the lens of concussions and head injuries. Who knows? Maybe brain damage triggered his violent overreaction to a fight with his girlfriend. What I believe is, if he didn’t possess/own a gun, he and Kasandra Perkins would both be alive today.

That is the message I wish Chiefs players, professional athletes and all of us would focus on Sunday and moving forward. Handguns do not enhance our safety. They exacerbate our flaws, tempt us to escalate arguments, and bait us into embracing confrontation rather than avoiding it.”

Here are a few basic thoughts that someone should put in front of Bob:

Banning guns doesn’t make them go away. The UK, DC, and NYC have all learned this the hard way. When guns are outlawed, that means only the bad guys have guns. If anything, his girlfriend needs the gun. When a football player and his girlfriend are in a fight, who wins? Disarming all women is just disgusting, and will increase the numbers of rapes and murders.

If you love your wife/girlfriend/daughters, then don’t fight “gun culture”. Embrace self-defense, buy them a gun, and teach them how to defend themselves. The gun is the great equalizer. It allows women to have a fighting chance against football-player sized thugs — a point lost on the anti-gun Costas.

If you want to fight back, “share” this image calling for him to lose his job.
