BUSTED: Obama Caught Lying About Obamacare Numbers (Click to Watch)

January 17, 2014

Another day, another lie from the Obama Administration. They have been patting themselves on the back for Obamacare single-handedly providing over 2 million new people health coverage since the exchanges went “live” last October; they also claimed that nearly an additional 4 million people are now eligible for Medicaid… all thanks to the Affordable Care Act.

Just like every other word coming from this administration, this is blatantly false.

The real figure for those now qualified to receive Medicaid is closer to 380,000 — over ten times less than they are claiming. (Try using that strategy in a business environment and see how long you have a job.)

During a conference call two weeks ago, White House Deputy Senior Adviser David Simas touted the supposed success, saying that “more than 2.1 million people who have enrolled in private plans… and 3.9 million Americans who learned that they are eligible for coverage through Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program… because of the Affordable Care Act, you are looking at this enrollment pickup.” Other top officials have been slinging the 6 million figure around as well, including HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.

From CNN Money:

Health Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said in a blog post Monday that “More than 6 million Americans have now either signed up for a private health insurance plan through the Marketplace or for Medicaid coverage.”

But the numbers are somewhat misleading. Here are the figures:

— 2.1 million Americans signed up for private health insurance through the federal and state exchanges through the end of December.

— 3.9 million people learned they’re eligible for Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) in October and November.

The squishiness lies in the Medicaid number. The 3.9 million figure includes people who were already on Medicaid and are just renewing, as Marilyn Tavenner, the administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services noted in a blog post late last month. So not all of these folks have coverage due to Obamacare. [...]

By using the 6 million figure, Jost believes the administration could give the wrong impression that these people were not covered before.

There’s a lot of pressure on the White House to show that people are flocking to sign up for Obamacare. The problem is that state Medicaid systems are pretty clunky and it’s hard to get reliable figures quickly, said Lisa Dubay, senior fellow at The Urban Institute’s Health Policy Center.

“It’s a mushy number,” Dubay said. “Everyone’s saying the numbers are not quite right. Nobody knows how not quite right they are.”

It’s a “mushy” number, alright. According to Sean Trende’s number crunching from Real Clear Politics, “only 380,000 new Medicaid enrollees [are] due to Obamacare, a far cry from 4 million.” The Obama Administration has been “taking credit for people who are renewing their pre-existing Medicaid plans,” Megyn Kelly from Fox News reports. Obamacare is failing worse and sooner than its harshest critics ever predicted. It’s time to repeal it. Help us spread the word about their lies by sharing this article.
